Everyone’s heard it: “It takes a Village.” I mean, mostly that statement crops up when we talk about child rearing but I think it applies to life in general. Whether we prefer to have few, very close friends or a large broader group of friends, we’re all built to need connection. Continue reading “The Self-Care Experiment Week 4: The power of the friend date”
You know what they say: if you’re going to talk to yourself, make sure you say something nice. We admit, it’s not something we’re consistently good at. We find it easier to congratulate ourselves and confirm our greatness when something goes well. But we then forget to continue this positive self-talk when things aren’t going well. When we feel down, challenged, or unworthy, we find it hard to believe what we’re saying to ourselves. At Handled, we run around a lot during an average day. Probably more than most people – that’s just part of the job! Easily clocking an average of 10,000 steps a day sounds pretty impressive and while walking is great exercise, it doesn’t do a whole lot to take care of excess stress. Plus, since it’s the only kind of exercise we’ve been doing for the past few months, we’ve been feeling less tight and toned than we’re comfortable with – especially as Spring comes around.
Most sources suggest that about three hours of vigorous activity is sufficient on a weekly basis, and honestly that seems just about the maximum any busy person could fit into their schedule. But we’re all about getting the most out of this Self-Care Experiment so we thought: what would happen if we did an hour a day – every day – instead? That way we could try seven different types of workouts and see how well each of them served our Self-Care purposes. Sound crazy? Crazy like a fox! So that’s what we did. When was the last time you journaled?
Do you have to search back to your teenaged days, when you filled a padlocked diary with the angsty flare-ups and minutiae of high school life? Or maybe, like us, you pick up a fresh ‘Travel Journal’ notebook each time you exercise your wanderlust so you can record every exciting moment of your adventures.
If this is journaling, it’s just not practical for everyday life – and that’s exactly why most of us don’t do it.
But, considering how many experts wax poetic about the benefits of journaling as though it’s a self-care cure-all, we started wondering: had we been doing it wrong this whole time? So, we checked out a bunch of different options to find a better way. Continue reading “The Self-Care Experiment – Week 1: The 5 Minute Journal”
Since last time we were in this space together, we’ve been feeling tired. Like really, exhausted, candle-at-both-ends, biting our tongues, sending ourselves to our rooms kind of tired. Right after a piece we wrote about self-care, you say? Hello irony, our old friend….
At Handled we’ve had lots of practice providing self-care to others, but sometimes we need a good dose of our own medicine. And so we asked you: What are your preferred self-care activities? And, more to the point:
Do you know what fills your cup and brings you a sense of emotional, mental, or spiritual well-being? Continue reading “Self-Care – How do you like yours?”
Fashion week season has wrapped up, and it’s time to talk about those fabulous trends that stormed the runways. Couture fashions can seem downright intimidating and darn near impossible to style into an everyday wardrobe (when only viewed as high fashion). Handled to the rescue. We’ve selected our most coveted trends and statement pieces to show you how to take the inspo from the runway and make it rock in your everyday closet. Continue reading “Fashion Week F/W’18 Roundup- Bringing Inspiration From The Shows Into Your Wardrobe”
