Just One Thing – Laura Kartonchik

Just One Thing – Laura Kartonchik

Yves Saint Laurent once said “fashions fade – but style is eternal.”

We’ve found that somewhere – deep in the recesses of our individual style histories – there’s always just one thing that stands out in our minds as a crucial element or objet that highlighted a turning point in defining our personal style.

The subject of this Just One Thing Interview is our very own Laura Kartonchik – whose months-long dream of a particular pair of dove grey suede pumps served as opening statement to developing her own Signature Style.

Fashion Week F/W’18 Roundup- Bringing Inspiration From The Shows Into Your Wardrobe

Fashion week season has wrapped up, and it’s time to talk about those fabulous trends that stormed the runways. Couture fashions can seem downright intimidating and darn near impossible to style into an everyday wardrobe (when only viewed as high fashion). You is for Uniform

You is for Uniform

If you’re like me, when you think of the the word, ‘uniform,’ one of two images come to mind: a gaggle of schoolgirls in identical skirts, ties, and blazers, or Mark Zuckerberg in a grey t-shirt and blue jeans. Both are expressions of efficiency – ensembles that say to the world, “I have more important things to worry about than what to put on in the morning.” But both are also undeniably associated with not only the word ‘uniform,’ but the words bland and boring. Not to discredit the method to Mark’s madness, but it’s time we reassess and reclaim the modern uniform, making it our b*tch. Continue reading “You is for Uniform”

Gifting 101

Gifting 101

Step 1 to getting the holiday juices flowing…

It’s barely even November but if there’s one thing we’ve learned – and if you’ve lived, you’ve learned this, too – the holidays creep up on you. There’s just no way around it. Every year you trick yourself into thinking you have all the time in the world to get everything for ev-ery-one and before you know it, it’s the weekend before Christmas and all you’ve got to show for it is a stocking with your dog’s name sewn onto it. So take it from us (we know a thing or two about buying for others) and plan ahead. Rather take the time to pick the perfect gift, whether it’s a fur stole or a weekend away, because after all – you only get as good as you give. Continue reading “Gifting 101”

How to wear black and not look boring

How to wear black and not look boring

I don’t care what anyone says, but black is the new black. It is irreplaceably the most classic, the most timeless, and the most chic of all colors (can I even call it that?). It’s what you throw on when you’re having any doubts about anything at all! If you’re having a bad hair day – High ponytail, all black. If you’re feeling a little rounder around the edges – black from head to toe. If you simply have no idea what to wear but still want to look crisp and well put together? You guessed it – sweet, sweet black. But even I can admit that sometimes, sometimes the constant monochromatic get-up gets a bit bland. So here are five ways to wear black and *not* be boring. Why we’re dreaming of cold weather

Why we’re dreaming of cold weather

It’s safe to say that a) summer is officially over, and b) we’re all rather upset about it. However, I can also confidently say that the single largest saving grace for the chill in the air is what you and every other fashion lover guessed: Fall coats. They are *the* wardrobe staple for this time of year, whether their purpose is to serve us functionally or decoratively. Handler André puts it best as “outerwear that’s an extension of our personal style, instead of just armour against a stiff breeze.”

From traditional classics to straight-up showstoppers, Shira and André have selected their men’s and women’s favourites from this season. Try and stop yourself from drooling, I dare you. Continue reading “Why we’re dreaming of cold weather”
